Desires for the future of Oklahoma Veteran’s Memorial

After completion of the Memorial through the donations of private citizens, the maintenance and upkeep became the responsibility of the State of Oklahoma.  Over the course of time the Memorial has come to need some repair.

Due to all the budget shortfalls facing the State the OVM sought to get permission to raise funds to make the needed repairs and also to upgrade the monument. The Department of Central Services instructed us to get permission from the Oklahoma Veteran’s Council to proceed. The Council granted this permission April 6, 2010 to raise funds for these purposes.

Our desires are to comply with new engineering requirements and replace all the existing concrete.  This also would make the monument easier to visit for those with disabilities.

An equally large project would be to replace the bronze panels with the names of those Oklahomans killed in action with a polished granite panel with the names engraved by laser.  It would be beautiful as it would resemble the Viet Nam wall.  It would also be practical as it would require much less maintenance. We would also like to add an additional wall to reflect those Oklahomans killed in action since Viet Nam, including Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Once again, Oklahomans have the opportunity to honor those who gave it all.  Please consider making a tax-deductible contribution to this worthy project so that future generations might continue to be reminded of the price of freedom.
